  1. Hi, I'm Julie Quinn. I am a junior at UW-Eau Claire studying English-Creative Writing along with a marketing minor and English-Critical Studies in Literature, Culture, and Film. I plan to graduate in May 2021. I have always been interested in writing and reading. I knew at a young age I wanted to be an author, and that dream has not changed. Based on my interest in the field of English, I decided to accept an internship at WEAU-13 News. My primary role is to run the website and social media, as well as write articles, scripts, and create VSOTS. Although I do not plan on going into journalism or even reporting, I believe the skills I have developed through this internship will help me in future writing-related professions. In addition, I conducted an independent research study through the Blugold Fellowship Program, where I interviewed various fiction authors regarding their creative process. I believe I would be a good asset to your company as I am an excellent communicator. I possess the ability to work my way towards the final end goal, while adapting to my environment along the way. A strong organizer, I am able to effectively and quickly acheive my goals. I believe this job would provide me with a quality experience, further strengthening my current English skills.

  2. I major in integrated strategic communication which is often described as a convergence of advertising, public relations, and marketing. This allows me to have extensive knowledge of these three fields while still remaining grounded in communication. My English minor has been integral to enhancing skills I’ve developed such as AP writing, development of press releases, and social media strategy.

I've then been able to put those skills to practical use and gained knowledge of the field through my internship as a marketing intern at Gold's Gym Eau Claire, my work-study job as a site coordinator at Blugold Beginnings, and my position as communications specialist in the Tau Sigma honor society. This field fascinates me, and I'm eager to expand and develop my skills.

  3. My name is Abby Hetcher, and I currently am a senior at University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. I am double majoring in music and creative writing, and I will graduate this spring, in May 2020. My double major in music and English gives me unique experiences that I wouldn’t have if I only emphasized in one subject. Through my music classes, I have learned the importance of teamwork, and that discipline and practice is more important than talent. Participating in music ensembles has also given me more of a creative perspective on art, which I apply to my writing. Through Eau Claire’s English Department, I have taken advantage of many writing opportunities, including attending poetry readings and author talks, and participating in an internship with the University’s McNair Program. In my internship, I worked with students to help them edit their graduate school applications and their research articles for publication. One of my career goals is to help people edit and publish their writing, and I would love to work with short fiction and novels. I believe that my experiences in both music and writing make me an exceptional candidate for this position and a valuable member to your team.

  4. I'm Olivia Kroner and I'm currently in my final semester at UW-Eau Claire, where I am majoring in English with an emphasis in creative writing and minoring in organizational communication. While my major may position its students into becoming writers, my first love has always been the structure of the written word. I have a real understand of grammar, spelling, and language, and coupled with my communications minor, I am able to put these skills to use in a variety of opportunities. Currently, I am using the things I have learned from both of my degree paths at my internship with Volume One, an entertainment and culture magazine in Eau Claire, where I am able to reach out to people in the community and write about them side by side. I believe this job would be a great way to showcase the specific combination of skills that I've been cultivating over the course of my college career.

  5. Hello! My name is Angela Hugunin. I’m a third year student at UW-Eau Claire majoring in English-Creative Writing and French, with a Certificate in Organizational Communication. I will graduate in May of 2021. I am passionate about language and how it allows us to share meaning through creativity, culture, and shared experiences. In my time as a university student, I’ve pursued opportunities to enhance my writing skills and broaden my cultural understanding. As Poetry Editor for NOTA, the literary and fine art publication of our campus, and Intern for the Chippewa Valley Writers Guild, I’ve been immersed in creative community. These roles have allowed me to improve my critical thinking, reading and decision-making skills, connect with others about their work, and enrich my own writing. I studied for a semester in France, delving into an immersive language curriculum alongside other French speakers from around the world, learning from a host family, and helping teach English to French students at three different schools. I’ve also collaborated with an interdisciplinary team of professors and students to study American and Chinese reactions to climate change as part of an ongoing research project. These diverse experiences have shaped my skills, grounding me in solid communication while still fostering creative growth, assets I believe would make me a valuable addition to this team.

  7. Hi! I'm Paul. I'm a Junior at UW Eau Claire. I spent about three years before entering college working a variety of full-time jobs before I decided to hit the books again. I eventually realized that writing and speaking have always been strong suits of mine, especially when it comes to simplifying complex or new information. Consider how doctors are able to explain very specific and detailed procedures to a five-year old. As a bicycle mechanic a lot of my job involved explaining parts and repairs to customers that were otherwise in the dark. I realized a job could come of this basic and necessary skill- of making the complex readable and easy to understand. Technical Writing is a position I can excel in. I'm currently studying English- Rhetoric of Science, Technology & Culture; additionally, I am minoring in Creative Writing. My knack for writing has landed me an internship with a local manufacturer, Realityworks. I'm also very handy with a red pen and enjoy proofreading. Engineering and R&D are so fascinating to me and I love learning new things on the job, so this is a natural fit. I know how to work and I love collaborating with others to meet a common goal.

  8. My name's Thomas--I'm majoring in Creative Writing at UW-Eau Claire. One of the things I love most about creative writing and literature is the potential for communication, interpretation, and understanding that the page provides to readers and writers alike. Outside of my strong abilities in writing and English, I pride myself on exceptionally strong interpersonal skills; the ability to build and maintain communicative relationships is something I take seriously. I do my best work taking problems as they come and finding rational solutions that fix the problem at hand, but I also make sure to think of how these solutions can be made more permanent and effective in the long run. I'm always enthusiastic to learn new ideas, perspectives, and skills. I find that being open to new approaches provides more opportunity for growth and it can be the key to finding the solution to a wide-spread range of problems. For me, this opportunity is as much about personal growth as it is to be an indispensable asset to you. Thanks!

  9. Hi my name is Alaina Kennelly and I am currently a second semester junior at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. I am double majoring in English Critical Studies in Literature, Culture and Film and German. I plan to graduate in December 2020. I have had a strong love for both reading and writing all of my life. I am intrigued with analyzing the underlying message of a text and seeing past the surface. And I also love producing my own writing both fiction and non-fiction.
I am currently interning with a non-profit organization called JONAH. I have been working on writing research articles for their newsletter, producing posters for their events and updating their website. This role has allowed me to enhance my writing and creativity skills which are things I know I’ll need in a future career. And it has also given me experience in professional setting where I am expected to help the organization meet their goals.
I think I would be a good asset to your company because I am very good at problem solving and pride myself in being someone who works hard and gets things done. I am also a very open-minded person and am always willing to learn new skills. Overall, I think I would be a very valuable asset to your team!

  11. Hello, I’m Madeline Bunde and I’m in my final semester at UW-Eau Claire. My major is history and my minor in creative writing. Since childhood, I have always had a love of stories. Hearing tales of both people’s triumphs and downfalls has always intrigued me. I have found my major and minor have enabled me to look outside myself to learn of the world through different lenses and in different ways. My history major often allows me to look at a story a macro level while my creative writing background has enabled me to focus on a more singular voice. I currently have an internship with the UW-Eau Claire English Department where we are working on a story about some of the students’ immersion trip to Jamaica. I am also currently working on my capstone paper for my history major, in which I’m planning to focus on post-handover Hong Kong. I also volunteer as an international buddy where we meet weekly to talk and help them become more comfortable during their time here. I believe that everyone has a story, and those stories deserve to be heard.

  12. Hi, I'm Emma O'Shea, a soon to be graduate majoring in English with an emphasis in creative writing. Writing has always been the epitome of me; it has always been a way in which I understood the world and expressed myself in it. Through the past four years of my college career, my curiosity for how the written word can spark change has been the main focus in choosing my professional ventures. From article writing for the Chippewa Valley Writers' Guild, to volunteering at The Bowery in St. Mark's Church, one of the most profound venues for literary arts in downtown Manhattan, I have developed a sense of self in writing that has formed a unique perspective. My last semester at UW-Eau Claire, I will be writing monthly articles for the Heyde Center for the Arts; interviewing artists and performers about their journey into becoming a professional performer, writer, dancer or singer and everything in between. From an individual level, I will always be searching for the way in which I can contribute originality in what I read and where I work. On a larger scale, I strive to become an essential voice to this publication and an asset to the company.

  13. Hi, my name is Madison Porter, Maddy for short! I am passionate about the arts, and have found that they have helped me through out my life. I started playing the flute at age 7 and have been writing and reading since my mom read Dr.Seuss books aloud to me at birth. I followed these interests into college by majoring in Music and Creative Writing. These degrees are the first stepping stones for the rest of my life in which I aim to peruse the expression of the human experience through music and language. I have continued to find ways to collaborate my interests with the creation of compositions in music that have poems to accompany them, and taking on the internship for writing with the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra. These two disciplines have taught me the importance of individuality, while being open to others ideas. It is also essential to love learning, because with out a need for knowledge we find ourselves stuck in our own ways, failing to gain the experience of other people and disciplines perspectives. Although I am hoping to encourage and pass on the love of writing to students and not continue professionally in music, I have the unique ability to examine different art forms and combine them in the classroom to give a different perspective.

  14. Hi! My name is Hayley Jacobson. I am a creative writing major, minoring in journalism. I am in my second to last semester at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, and I am looking to join the reporting and publishing world. I have worked with a campus publication for three years now. My job with the publication started with me being a copy editor, but now I am the editor in chief and am in charge of running it. I have had a few hiccups along the way, but I have fought my way through it all and have come out on top in each situation. For this publication, I am in charge of making sure we get enough submissions for print, updating the website, and being the go between for the publication and the printers/ school/ and everyone else who wants to get involved with us. As well as working for this publication, I was involved for a short while at the campus newspaper. I worked as a reporter, and it really helped my work in writing news stories much better. While I am involved in many different organizations on campus, I do know how to take time for myself as well. I am currently working on several books I hope to publish in the near future. I love to keep busy, so whenever I am bored, I tend to organize the things around me. I seek out tasks to complete and do my best to help people wherever I go.
